Boarding is available Sunday through Saturday. While services are primarily for dogs and cats, we do board some exotics such as rabbits, guinea pigs and turtles.
What to Expect When Boarding Your Pet
When your dog is dropped off for boarding, he will receive a quick exam prior to being placed in our kennel. This helps us to maintain the healthiest, cleanest, and safest environment for our guests.
We feed our boarders a prescription gastrointestinal diet called Purina EN. Feeding time typically occurs once daily at 8am although twice-a-day feedings are available at no additional cost. While owner diets are accepted for and additional $2*/daily dispensing fee, they are not preferred unless medically necessary. Owner-provided meals must be pre-measured and pre-bagged per meal to ensure proper feeding.
All blankets and food/water bowls are provided by our clinic.
Any required medications must be brought in their original containers and be accompanied by current prescription dosage. Medication administering is charged at a flat $2*/day.
We require specific vaccines and tests be up to date. If necessary, we can update at check-in. Mandatory vaccinations include: Dogs • Rabies • Distemper • 6 month bordetella • Canine Influenza (H3N8 & H3N2 strains) must be done no later than 2 weeks prior if never had • Fecal sample
Cats • Rabies • Distemper • Fecal sample
If your pet is seen by a different veterinarian, we will require documentation of vaccinations.
Housing for our boarders varies depending on species and size, including the following: • Small dogs (20 pounds and under) board in our 27″x27″x27″ ward of cages. • Larger dogs board in our 8’Dx8’Hx3’W suites of partitioned epoxy floor runs. • All cats board in our treatment room.
Boarders remain in in their assigned accommodations, but have access to our fully enclosed, roofed, chain-link pens during cleanings when weather permits. Cleanings occur three to four times daily for 10 to 15 minute stretches.

Help Save Pets was originally founded as the Humane Society of Plainfield in 2000. Since then we have placed over 14,000 animals into loving homes. Each one of these animals was given shelter, food, medical aid and vaccinations and time to find the right home. Our doctors mended mutilated limbs and cured many illnesses so that these animals could get a second chance at good lives. We have grown and now operate out of 6 locations, not all of them in Plainfield. In 2008, we changed our name from the Humane Society of Plainfield to Help Save Pets, still HSP.
Dr. Tony Kremer owns 8 veterinary hospitals in the Chicagoland area and two in Ohio. He is the founder of Help Save Pets, an animal shelter which has saved more than 14,000 pets since 2000. Dr. Tony’s knowledge, insight, and advice are shared regularly with major media outlets across the nation and in the third largest market. Dr. Tony is also a member of the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association Public Education Committee that routinely gets the word out about responsible pet ownership.
